Calm and Clear

Teachings with Amnyi Trulchung Rinpoche
This is a continuation of Rinpoche's previous class. However, these classes stand alone and will be of interest even if you haven’t been along before.
Meditation is becoming increasingly popular as a means to find peace and clarity in the modern world. Resting for a while in quiet calm, though helpful, in the end is just a temporary solution. However by cultivating these two qualities it is possible to achieve single pointed concentration, a state of effortless, calm, focussed awareness.
From a Buddhist point of view, even this wonderful state is seen only as a means to an end, not the goal itself. Once developed, calm clarity can be used as a tool to give penetrating, subtle and thorough insight into the nature of our very being; knowledge of what truly brings happiness and what brings sorrow. Disturbing emotions and false ideas are obstacles to calm concentration so the first stages in meditation practice involve carefully analysing our actions and ideas and changing our behaviour to aid progress.
In a series of three classes over the weekend, Amnyi Trulchung Rinpoche will continue the study of Shantideva's A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life. In Chapter 8, all the elements required to develop calm abiding meditation are explained through reasoned analysis rooted in common sense. Though continuing a broader series of talks, these classes stand alone and will be of interest even if you haven’t been along before.
All Welcome.
